Bake away the blues with blueberries!

Spring is the perfect time for baking. You can open the windows and hear the birds chirp while having the rich smell of muffins flow through the house! 

Many people enjoy sweet blueberry muffins. In fact, in the United States of America, July 11th is National Blueberry Muffin Day! It is strange that something as small as blueberry muffins would have a day designated to them but they deserve it! In January 2003 the Highbush Blueberry was designated the official state fruit of New Jersey.*

There are so many things about blueberry muffins that make them great! Below, DC Roar Staff Writer, MaryJane Kritzon shares her favorite blueberry muffin recipe*. Give it a try and savor the flavor of these sweet muffins!

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour 
  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ⅓ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg 
  • ⅓ cup milk, or more as needed
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries 
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour 
  • ¼ cup butter, cubed
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
