Midterms with the masters

With midterms coming up , many students feel the pressure of the big exams. They need to start studying and preparing for them now so that they aren’t cramming at the last second. But studying can be hard. Everyone learns differently, not everything works for everyone, and it can be difficult to find ways that work for you. Maxx Zander and Charlotte Martinez are both students who have perfected their ways of preparing for midterms, and were willing to share their tips with us.

Don’t study, don’t stress. Maxx Zander, a junior, is feeling ready for the upcoming tests, even though she did not realize they are so soon. She shared her tips with us in an interview; suggesting you do your homework and any work the teacher assigned even if it is not graded. You don’t always need to put a lot of time aside to study. Her final tips were to relax and focus. Make sure you feel prepared, and look back on old concepts that will be on the test. “So I don’t study, the most I do is for my AP History class. I’ll re-watch the video summaries in the chapter. So I kinda relearn the material the day of.” Then she shared her tips to getting good grades, “I’ve always had teachers that give you notes that you had to fill in to get grades, so I think that doing that just helped me learn the topics and memorize them. So I don’t go out of my way to study, I just do my homework.” Photo by Anja Zander

Stress for success. As a freshman, Charlotte Martinez is working on her ways of studying and managing the stress that comes with midterms. She studies for classes when it’s needed, but recognizes that not every class needs to be studied for. She recommended asking teachers what midterms will be like, see if you can use a study guide, listening to music that you can sing the lyrics without thinking about, and taking breaks. Her final tip was, “Don’t give up, and don’t stress over finals. You’ve got this!” Photo by Caitlin Helton
